Healing - more complete than we ever thought!

I heard Pastor Craig* share out of James 5:13-16 during a recent Wednesday night bible study that the Greek used here was actually "weakness" or "feebleness" and not sickness as we normally think of it.

James 5:14 Is any sick among you? let him call for the elders of the church; and let them pray over him, anointing him with oil in the name of the Lord:

Here "sick" is the Greek as-then-eh'-o, which means to be feeble (in any sense): - be diseased, impotent folk (man), (be) sick, (be, be made) weak.

Of course when Pastor Craig first started sharing in this series there was an inclination to believe he was starting to debunk Healing. Far from it!

This word is used 42 times in the New testament and is translated: 21 times as "weak"; 17 times as "sick"; twice as "impotent"; once as diesesed; and once as "made". Not sure what's with that "made" at all...

From far excluding healing this actually expands it...

We usually think of "sick" as a weakness caused by a microbe.

But, if we take this literal Greek statement to it's logical conclusion it would include *anything* that might make us weak or ineffective as Christians!

This would include any root cause of weakness Spirit, Soul or Body... Mind, Will or Emotions...

All it takes is a "little confession" and prayer. (Admit you have the weakness!)

Are you weak and fighting a sin that so easily besets? You can be healed or strengthened to overcome it by binding with the elders for prayer... And, if you have comitted any sin because of the weakness... You'll be forgiven! Wow!

Please note that there is no inference that the weakness is because of sin... But, rather (the sin) as a result of the "weakness".

If I am hearing this right, then, the Word of Faithers calling a lack of faith for this or that as sin. Are, WRONG!

There's a forgivable weakness involved that their "elder faith" should stand in the gap for and see God heal... Anyway!

(If your faith is so strong then why aren't you willing to stand in the gap. Afraid of contamination, or something? ©¿© )

Let's think on what a person might be "weak" from...

Also, let's think on why we don't avail ourselves of this "Community of Faith" solution for so many of our "missings of the mark".

Are we, when wearing our "elder" garb, people who remain human and can share and recieve from hurting, disenchanted, or insecure people.

Do we engender an environment where there is safety and inclusion for those so bold as to admit they have a need or, shudder, a weakness and call for the elders...

If there is nothing too small for God... Is anything too small to take a moment and call for the elders of the church?

Something to think about?

Share your thoughts?
